Barn Happy - Our Story
An old dairy barn built in 1925 - still in excellent condition - needs a purpose!

Seventy-eight years later, long after herds of cattle and many hogs had called the barn their home, it was time for scraping, power-washing and bleaching. Lots of elbow grease transformed the smelly old barn into a one-of-a-kind place called Barn Happy, which opened in Spring 2003. Now the aroma of fresh brewed coffee, homemade pastries and made-from-scratch soups and sandwiches fill your senses when you enter.

Tim & Kris Boettger, the owners of Barn Happy, both grew up on farms in Iowa; Tim near Harlan and Kris on the west side of Des Moines. Their families have firm roots in Iowa and they are proud to call this great state home with their two children, Isaac & Adrienne.

We feel it is important to preserve the agricultural heritage and values of the heartland. Iowa is a unique and valuable asset to the country. Barn Happy works to give customers and visitors a genuine snapshot of the state.

All of the foods in the gift baskets are produced in Iowa.

It is a thrill to have:
The beekeeper deliver the honey
The cattle farmer bring the beef sticks
The popcorn farmer supply the popcorn
The lady down the road bake the delicious homemade biscotti and granola

This is a small sampling of the fantastic "Iowa made" offerings found at Barn Happy. If you decide to come and enjoy a little "time on the farm" and stay for a cup of hot barn brew, pastries, and lunch, you will find none better!

A great selection of fine arts and crafts, seasonal gift items and a hay loft full of antiques and primitives, help complete the nostalgic Iowa experience.

The creativity of Iowa folks is truly amazing! Come and see for yourself!
